Correspondence with mineral dealers and collectors worldwide and eminent mineralogists such as Charles Baskerville, Edward S. Dana, Louis Pope Gratacap, Alfred Lacroix, and Samuel L. Penfield relating to Kunz's acquisition of specimens. Correspondence provides a picture of his large collection. Letters of John Crawford, David T. Day, S. Ward Loper, Robert Abbe, E.P. Adams, and George Otis Smith are concerned with radioactive minerals, radium production, and effects of radiation on the color of gems. Other scientific files on meteorites, ivory, pearls, new minerals, gemstones, and United States mining statistics reflect Kunz's major areas of scientific interest. His letters, manuscripts, and notes relate to Kunz's articles and books on gemstones, pearls, and ivory. Kunz's papers as President of the New York Mineralogical Club demonstrate his participation in the administration and progress of the earth sciences. Also included are files on Tiffany's gem dealings. Other correspondence with prominent figures in music, art, and architecture reflects Kunz as an art patron and collector. In addition, personal papers of the Kunz family.
